NECW & WWW to Participate in 18th Annual Hot Dog Safari This Sunday

New England Championship Wrestling and World Women’s Wrestling will once again be a featured part of Eddie Andelman’s 18th Annual HOT DOG SAFARI, Sunday, June 3 at Suffolk Downs in Revere, MA.

The Hot Dog Safari is the brainchild of Boston sports talk radio legend Edie Andelman. The idea for the Hot Dog Safari evolved back in 1990, when during his program Eddie wondered aloud to his audience about the ultimate sports food: the hot dog. Nominations for the best hot dog were forthcoming. Heated challenges ensued. Eddie resolved the debate by organizing a bus trip for 200 people to visit certain locations to sample various hot dogs. As Eddie told his listeners: “We are on a Hot Dog Safari”. The money from ticket sales went to benefit the Joey Fund.

In year two, the Hot Dog Safari grew to an attendance of 3,000 people when it was decided to offer the various hot dogs in a single location. Hot Dog Safaris III and IV yielded progressively higher attendance. Now in the (18th) year, the attendance at Suffolk Downs should be at an all-time high. Last year’s attendance was estimated at 12,000.

Broadcast and advertising trade magazines have often referred to the Hot Dog Safari as one of the biggest and best radio promotions ever developed. More importantly, in a single day, well over $150,000 was raised to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis; a cure that the medical experts say is only a few years away.

100% of the proceeds from this Sunday’s event benefit Cystic Fibrosis/The Joey Fund. The day long event features all the hot dogs, sausages, ice cream and more you can eat, plus live entertainment, athlete appearances and a day long combined wrestling event from NECW & WWW. Gates open at 9:00 AM. Wrestling will begin at 10:00 AM. The event continues until 4:00 PM.

The stars of New England Championship Wrestling and World Women’s Wrestling will be out in force with 16 matches and more than 40 stars on hand. Just some of the feature bouts signed for the Hot Dog Safari include:

NECW Triple Crown Champion, D.C. Dillinger in a non-title match against “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke. Dillinger refused to put his title on the line for this match, citing that he did not have to put his title on the line against anyone who was not a “top contender.” Brandon Locke will be out to prove he really is “The Real Deal,” Sunday, June 3 in Revere.

World Women’s Wrestling Champion, Tanya Lee defends her title against Cha Cha, a star who has enjoyed ever-increasing popularity since debuting for WWW.

In a special challenge match, it will be former Triple Crown Champion, “The Human Nightmare” Evan Siks squaring off against Handsome Johnny, one of the competitors in the upcoming IRON 8 Championship, June 9th in Brockton.

In a special World Women’s Wrestling tag team challenge match, former WWW Champion, Nikki Roxx teams with “The Portuguese Princess” Ariel to face The Daughters of Darkness (Della Morte and Mistress Belmont)

In a battle of #1 contenders to the NECW Triple Crown Championship, Big Rick Fuller battles “Straight Edge” Brian Fury.

Former NECW Television Champion, “The Talent” T. J. Richter collides with IRON 8 Competitor, Gary Cassidy of Ireland who will be making his U.S. debut on this event.

All these stars, plus The Canadian Superstars, 2D Edge, Triplelicious, The Baker Boys, Max Bauer, and many more.

In addition, this year’s HOT DOG SAFARI will be televised from 1PM to 3PM on Comcast’s CN* channel throughout Eastern New England. A live remote radio broadcast on 1510 The Zone will also be taking place.

Join us this Sunday for the greatest day of sports, entertainment and HOT DOGS in history – and all for a great cause! Tickets and details are online at www.hotdogsafari.com.

SPOILERS – Saturday Night’s Main Event

Pre-Show:

*Welcome to the SNME spoilers from the Air Canada Centre. Doors said open 6:45 but 6:30 and doors open and half the arena is full. No tarped off areas.

*The SNME set is already out, basically a combination of the Raw set with SNME logo centered towards the lower end of the middle.

*On the top of the stage is a motorcycle, and there are NBC logos all over the arena. There is only one announce table at ringside.

*This crowd is really hot, and only half the arena is full, people are already clapping and the Ric Flair “Wooo!” chants are in full force.

*WWE opening voice over and snme logo lights up on the set.

*Wrestlemania retro video of this year that showed at the end of the PPV is on the Titantron. Live, a huge negative pop for WWE champion John Cena.

Dark Match:

*The SNME logo and set is on and Raw announcer John Roberts is in the ring talking up the crowd. ECW referee in the ring as Chuck Palumbo does his biker intro. Tyson Duxx of Border City Wrestling is his opponent. Chuck looks way bigger than the last time he was on TV, not as lean. The local fans are chanting for Duxx. Some boring chants. Palumbo hits a sequence of a over the head release german suplex, followed by a running big boot, then finally a Dominator into a reverse stunner for the win.

*Michael Cole comes out to smackdown music for SNME announcing followed by Jerry Lawler.

*We see a HHH recovery video for his new quad injury. The crowd cheers for the HHH video and SNME is about to start so “Get your signs up” prompting. About two thirds of the arena is full right now.

*No pyro yet as Ashley Massaro comes down to ringside and takes a seat.

SNME

Pyro goes off, set lights up, a bit different than normal.

WWE champion John Cena vs. Great Khali

Cena out to a major chorus of boos. Cena looks a bit bothered. Worse reaction than Unforgiven. Ashley is the ring announcer. They play a history package on Cena vs. Khali and Khali comes out during it, so he goes to the back to redo his intro. The SNME set actually looks very neat lit up, better than I previously said. The crowd is split between cena and khali. Crowd is super hot. And is filling in… So far, Cena had a bit of early offence but Khali powers out of the STFU and the FU at different times. The crowd turns on Khali as he controls the match with a lot of power moves. Cena can’t hold Khali for the FU. Khali hits chop to head and double chokeslam for the win. Khali defeats Cena. Ashley goes to the back, as Khali cuts a promo that gets translated to say that Khali can beat Cena anywhere and will do so at One Night Stand.

*Cena gets booed to the back and there are chants of “You can’t wrestle.”

*Next is ECW champion Vince Mcmahon vs Bobby Lashley in an arm wrestling match.

*Kristal Marshall comes out to announce as they setup the ring.

ECW champion Vince McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley – Arm Wrestling

Announced as the “Doctor of Hardcore”, Vince is out first. We see a history package on Lashley vs. Vince dating back to the shaved head at Wrestlemania. Out comes Lashley to some pyro that explodes on him at the top of the ramp. The crowd is now about 95 percent full. Vince holds the ECW belt up in front of Lashley. Vince gets the “You screwed Bret” chant and won’t lock up with Lashley. he keeps stalling, stopping, locking up, stopping. He gets the mic but it won’t work. Vince gets a new mic and brings out Mark Henry to face Lashley and they start brawling. They go for a bit, big Lashley chant. As Lashley gets advantage, Henry slugs him, and they brawl. Henry bear hugs Lashley into corner but Lashley explodes out with the spear. Vince comes in and nails a chair to back of Lashley. Vince and Henry celebrate up the ramp.

Lashley and Kristal go to back.

WWE World champion Edge promo with Maria where he says he isn’t the tallest, biggest or strangest, but he is the greatest. Big pop for Edge as he’s in his hometown.

The Crowd is full. Torrie willson out to ring announce.

Batista & Chris Benoit vs. WWE United States champion MVP & WWE World champion Edge

Out comes Batista to mixed reaction. His partner, announced from Atlanta, Georgia, is Chris Benoit to a major pop. They bring out MVP’s inflatable set. Out comes MVP. And they strike MVP’s inflatable set in less than 30 seconds. Biggest pop and firework show of all time at the Air Canada Center for Edge who gets a major hometown reaction…. Just amazing how pro-Edge the crowd is. He poses on top of corner.

Edge and MVP compare titles at ringside. MVP and Benoit start. MVP gets to rope to escape the crossface. He tags in Edge to a massive pop. Takes some Benoit suplexes for a 2. All offense from Benoit, so he tags in Batista. Edge tags out. Batista dominates MVP with power moves for a two count, then tags in Benoit. Benoit with chops to MVP then hits three suplexes. Benoit misses flying headbutt. Edge in with a reverse backbreaker and gets a two. In comes MVP, who gets a two with some bodyslams. Edge back in and Benoit now in a headlock. Benoit powers out, hits an enziguiri on Edge. MVP comes in but Benoit is able to tag out. Batista power moves and running clothesline on MVP and as edge goes to make the aave, Batista scares him off. Edge grabs his belt and goes up ramp. A spinebuster on MVP, followed by flying headbutt by Benoit for the pin. Batista and Benoit win.

Candice Michelle comes out to announce.

We see Finlay and Hornswoggle, as well as Boogeyman and Little Boogey walk in the back. They both come out to their own intros…

Finlay & Hornswoggle vs. Boogeyman & Little Boogey

Finlay and Boogey start off. Boogey has control with all power moves. The crowd is split. Little Boogy in and 2 Banzai Drops on Finlay. Lil Boogy hits a DDT and eats worms. Hornswoggle, who is hiding under the ring, tags in. The minis are about to wrestle but Finlay drop kicks lil Boogy. Hornswoggle and Finlay dance in ring. Finish comes when Boogeyman goes after Hornswoggle. Ffinlay gives a big boot to Little Boogy for Finlay to get the win.

*We now have a super long WWE 24/7 promo.

They put a new mat on the ring for the next match, and out comes Extreme Expose to the ring.

During the dance we cut backstage and The Boogies are running after Hornswoggle. Ffinlay lays out Boogey. Hornswoggle and Little Boogey come to the ring. They put Exxpose on their shoulders and Expose gives us a chicken fight. It is a draw, and Little Boogey runs Hornswoggle to the back.

Michelle McCool comes to ring announce.

Kane & Eugene (dressed as Superman) & Doink the Clown vs. Kevin Thorn & Viscera & Umaga.

Doink does the point to face, getting cheered, then points to heel, causing the fans to boo. Doink and Thorn started. Thorn beats down Doink. Eugene and Umaga in. Umaga powers over Eugene and tags in Viscera. Viscera hits the sidewalk slam on Eugene. He beats down Eugene in the corner. Thorn tags in. Umaga and Thorn beat down Eugene, controlling him with power moves. Thorn grabs a chinlock. Eugene gets Umaga to the outside and tags in Kane. Kane beats up Viscera and Thorn. Kane nails a top rope clothesline on Thorn. Umaga destroys Kane, Doink and Eugene. In comes Viscera, to give the love train to Kane. Kane gets out of the way, then hits the chokeslam on gets the pin as Umaga beats up Eugene and Doink.

Pre-Raw

Now time to change ring and set for RAW. This is a major, major change. They are building the Raw set and dismantling SNME set.

While they change the set, which is an amazing change, they show us a video that has never been on TV. It must be for corporate purposes.

SPOILERS – 3 Weeks Of iMPACT! Tapings

TNA iMPACT! Tapings for May 31:

– Jim Cornette came out to discuss the King of the Mountain Match at Slammiversary on June 17 to determine a new TNA World Champion. Cornette mentioned that Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe have already qualified. He said this week’s scheduled qualified match was supposed to be Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles, but Jarrett was unable to appear due to family reasons. Cornette said he understood Jarrett’s decision. Christian Cage, AJ Styles and Tomko all came out. Cage demanded Cornette raise AJ’s hand as the winner and pointed out how Cornette has been screwing him for months in TNA. Cornette said since he pointed out that, he wouldn’t announce AJ as the winner by forfeit and announced Styles vs. Tomko later in the night in a KOTM Qualifying Match.

– Christopher Daniels vs. Rhino never took place as Sting attacked Daniels while he was coming down the ramp. Rhino then got on the mic and said he was going to kick Daniels’ ass, but Sting beat him to it. He then issued a challenge to anyone in the back. LAX came out. Konnan got on the mic and talked about TNA screwing LAX and how they would get the TNA Tag Titles back soon. He also called Hector Guerrero a sell out. Guerrero joined Rhino in his corner which led to…

– Rhino w/ Hector Guerrero defeated Homicide w/ LAX. After the match, LAX attacked Rhino. Guerrero hit the ring when LAX was about to take out Rhino with a chair. LAX then went after Guerrero until Chris Harris hit the ring to make the save.

– TNA X Division Champion Chris Sabin defeated Kazarian in a Non-Title Match. Said to be a solid match.

– AJ Styles defeated Tomko in a Qualifying Match for the King of the Mountain Match. Cage was at ringside cheering on both guys. Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe showed up later. Styles rolled up Tomko for the win.

TNA iMPACT! Tapings for June 7:

– Robert Roode defeated Jerry Lynn. After the match, Roode and Ms. Brooks tried to take out Lynn when Eric Young hit the ring with a chair. Roode put Brooks in the path of Young and bailed from the ring. Young prevents Brooks from leaving the ring. Lynn and Young tease giving Ms. Brooks a Cradle Piledriver until Jim Cornette breaks it up. He said there will be no violence against women in TNA. Cornette setup a match between Brooks and Gail Kim since Brooks wanted to get involved so much.

– Gail Kim defeated Ms. Brooks. After the match, Robert Roode came out. Kim tried going after Roode, but Brooks took her out from behind.

– Chris Harris vs. James Storm ended in a No Contest in a Qualifying Match for the King of the Mountain. The finish saw Harris give Storm a Spear through the bottom of the stage. The referee then counted both men out, but it was stated that if one man could recover and get to the ring then they would win. Neither man could recover, so neither move onto the KOTM Match at Slammiversary. Both Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe were out again scouting during the match. After the match, Angle and Joe get in each other’s faces in the ring as TNA Security break it up. Styles comes out and tries to hit Angle with a pipe, but Angle ducks and puts him in the Ankle Lock.

TNA iMPACT! Tapings for June 14:

– The Steiners & Basham and Damaja defeated TNA World Tag Team Champions Team 3D & Voodoo Kin Mafia. The finish saw Christy Hemme spray Kim James with what looked to be mace allowing The Bashams to get the win.

– Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe & AJ Styles defeated Sting, Rhino & Tomko in a “King of the Mountain Redemption Match” where it was explained that if Angle, Joe and Styles lost, they would have forfeited their spots in the KOTM Match to Sting’s team. However, Tomko never showed up for the match and Christopher Daniels tried getting tagged in by Sting. Daniels hit Sting with the Last Rites allowing Angle to pin Sting.

– Christian Cage defeated Abyss via DQ in a Qualifying Match for the King of the Mountain Match. Abyss used a chair on Cage to cause the DQ to give Cage the win. After the match, Abyss brings out what looks to be his bag of thumbtacks. It turns out to be broken glass inside instead. TNA officials Terry Taylor and Simon Diamond try to stop Abyss, but get taken out. Cage, Styles and Tomko all try to take out Abyss. Cage gets a barbed wire bat. Abyss fights off the attack and ends the show cleaning house on all three men in the ring.

TNA Today/Xplosion Tapings:

– Ron “The Truth” Killings did a rap.

– Lance Hoyt defeated Havoc (Johnny Devine).

– Alex Shelley defeated Petey Williams.

SPOILERS – WWE SmackDown! Taping

I was at Smackdown/ECW tonight. Here’s the rundown. Some of it may not be in perfect order. I think I got everything, though. Crowd was about 90% full, so I’d guess about 8,500 in attendance.

The dark match saw Cody Rhodes beat Daivari with a top rope crossbody block. Cody looked okay, but it was your basic opening match.

JBL and Michael Cole came out. I think JBL got one of the best pops of the night.

Chris Benoit and Matt Hardy vs. MVP & The Miz
Decent match that went about 15 minutes with a commercial break in there after the usual babyfaces clean house spot. Hardy got worked over for much of the match while building to the hot tag to Benoit. The Crippler won it with a Crossface although no rolling Germans or headbutt. He just got the point this time. MVP got a nice pop while Miz was hated and Hardy and Benoit got a lot of support.

Finlay pumped up Hornswoggle for his match later on. Have to give Hornswoggle some props for the facial expressions.

Michelle McCool vs. Jillian Hall
I’m a fan of both ladies as far as their bodies go, but the action wasn’t all that great. Crowd was dead for it. After about five minutes of a back and forth match, Ashley came down the aisle just as Jillian was in the advantage, so Michelle ended up catching her with a spinning backbreaker for the pin. Then Ashley left. Many of us were wondering if Jillian was going to have a wardrobe malfunction because it sure looked like she was close.

Boogeyman prepared his mini buddy by giving him worms to eat.

Hornswoggle vs. Mini Boogeyman
Lots of fun with a hot crowd for it of course. Everybody loves the midgets apparently. Finish came when Finlay came out from under the ring (I saw him sprinting out there during Boogey’s entrance) to help Hornswoggle. Finlay hit Mini Boogey with the shillelagh and then Hornswoggle won it with a splash off the top. Crowd liked him.

At this point it was pretty funny because they were putting the carpet in the ring for what we thought was the interview segment (see main event), but then they ended up taking it out quickly as Kane’s music started up. During the match I could see ring announcer Tony Chimmel yelling at one of the tech guys about it. I guess they got something wrong on their order sheet.

Kane vs. Mark Henry

This was one of the worst matches I’ve ever seen live and I’ve seen Nathan Jones live, so that’s saying something. It went about 6 or 7 minutes and ended when Mark Henry gave him a bearhug on the floor, then rammed him into the post. Kane got counted out. They made a lumberjack match for One Night Stand as a result of this.

Backstage, Edge did his usual promo about beating Undertaker and then Batista, so he’s not an underdog.

Deuce & Domino did an interview with some new announcer dude. It was their usual ’70s type of speak with one of them (the short haired one) being extra aggressive.

Deuce & Domino vs. London & Kendrick vs. Regal & Taylor for the Tag Titles
This match was in the 15 minute range or so. Much of it was spent with Kendrick getting worked over by the four heels. The guy behind me wouldn’t shut up as he yelled for Regal to tag with Nigel McGuinness while another guy in the area yelled at him to shut up before he opens up a can of whoop ass. That got a loud ovation. Anyway, London came in after the tag, cleaned house and went for something off the top when Cherry shoved him off and the champs got the pin. I don’t remember which one. The one with the longer hair, I think.

Backstage, Teddy Long credited Vickie Guerrero with booking Kane vs. Henry in a Lumberjack match at One Night Stand. Then Kristal pondered about what would happen if Teddy and her weren’t on the same brand after the draft. The segment ended with Vickie telling Teddy & Kristal
to go on a romantic night out on the town because she would take care of the rest of the show. And then she did nothing to take care of the show. Weird segment.

Main Event Interview
Batista was a guest on the Cutting Edge show. Edge got a massive pop on the way out. I’d say it was the biggest of the night. He had a sore throat, so they got right to the point. He beat Undertaker and he beat Batista, so he’s not afraid of him. Then he gently slapped him, Batista gently slapped back. Then they gently nudged eachother and the segment ended with Batista decking him with a right hand.

Smackdown ended at about 9:40 so there was a 20 minute wait for ECW.

I’m not sure how it came across on TV, but we were pretty tired for ECW. Also, the fact that ECW airs at 12am on Friday nights in Canada doesn’t help. A lot of people didn’t know who the wrestlers were. Some quick notes on it.

Surprised to see Orton. He got a nice pop and Dreamer’s was okay.

The Punk/Burke match was well received. There was a lot of support for Punk while very few people knew Burke. Even less people knew Cor Von, but there was a massive ovation for the pounce through the table.

Most people thought Vince/Lashley would be in the arena, so there was a lot of booing when we found it was just going to be by video.

Extreme Expose woke the crowd up. At that point we had one ECW match in 40 minutes. It was a lot of video wall watching.

Thorn vs. Mahoney was horrible. Nobody knew them.

Orton and Dreamer’s match was so rushed. Nobody believed Dreamer could win, so nobody cared. Orton did get a nice pop for the RKO.

After the show there was a Batista/Benoit vs. Edge/MVP match, but we left to beat the traffic. I’ll just assume Batista pinned MVP with a Batista Bomb.

Brett Hart Signs on as New March of Dimes Spokesman

March of Dimes Canada (MODC) is thrilled to welcome legendary Canadian wrestler Bret Hart as the new spokesperson of its Stroke Recovery Canada program.

Known to many Canadians as Bret “The Hitman” Hart, the champion wrestler was born in Calgary, Alberta into a wrestling dynasty led by his father, Stu Hart. His seven brothers were either wrestlers or involved backstage with the wrestling business; his four sisters all married professional wrestlers.

Hart won numerous championships in his over 20-year wrestling career but his greatest victory has been his triumph over a devastating stroke in 2002. The stroke caused partial paralysis requiring months of physical therapy, but Hart made a successful recovery. He has since starred in a touring production of Aladdin, and has continued his support of athletics in Calgary.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have Bret Hart on board as our spokesperson,” says Kimberley Dowds, Associate Director of National Programs for March of Dimes Canada. “Mr. Hart exemplifies what it means to survive and thrive after a stroke, and is a true inspiration to all stroke survivors.”

There are over 300,000 stroke survivors in Canada, and every year another 50,000 join their ranks.

“I jumped at the chance to be a part of Stroke Recovery Canada,” says Hart. “I want to help March of Dimes Canada in its efforts to support stroke recovery and improve the quality of life of all Canadian stroke survivors.” Mr. Hart will be helping Stroke Recovery Canada in its mission to educate Canadian stroke survivors how to “Survive and Thrive” after a stroke. He will also help out at March of Dimes Canada events when his schedule allows.

Stroke Recovery Canada(TM), a program of March of Dimes Canada, is a national service offering post-recovery support, education and programs for stroke survivors, their families and health care providers. Through its work with local peer support groups across the country, Stroke Recovery Canada(TM) provides Canadians with the resources needed to help Canadians survive and thrive after stroke.

WWE Champ & TNA Star Have Strange Confrontation in Airport

WWE Champion John Cena and TNA wrestler Ron Killings had an awkward moment of interaction at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport Monday morning.

Cena, who was on his way to RAW following his appearance at the Coca-Cola 600, noticed Killings at the airport and decided to approach. Killings was en route to the TNA taping.

The WWE Champion, who was reportedly upset over anti-Cena comments Killings made in promos for TNA, stared the TNA talent down. Killings returned the favor, and the two eventually went their separate ways without any physical altercation.

Former WWE Diva on Billboard

Lauren Jones BillboardFormer WWE Diva Lauren Jones may have the distinction of being the first ever woman in wrestling, past or present, to ever appear on a billboard. In the town of Tyler, Texas, there is a billboard of her that says “SHE’S COMING.” Jones is coming to the Fox station KYTX to become a reporter for a reality show.

The series “Anchorwoman” is scheduled to premiere this summer on Fox. It will be kind of like “The Simple Life” but in a TV station setting.

Random News: Michelle McCool, Candice Michelle, Stacy Keibler, & More

Michelle McCool– Michelle McCool will be having a special photo shoot that should be on WWE’s website in the future. The photo shoot was awarded to her after she won the Memorial Day Bikini Beach Blash Battle Royal on RAW. WWE’s website has an article on this topic.

– WWE Diva and Playboy Playmate Candice Michelle was on hand at this past weekend’s Indianapolis 500. Candice was there with GoDaddy.com whom sponsors female racecar driver Danica Patrick.

– Former WWE Diva Stacy Keibler made an appearance last week at the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 film premiere at Disneyland in California.

– TNA iMPACT will feature a women’s match (finally) in the coming weeks, pitting Ms. Brooks (Traci Brooks) against Gail Kim. From what I am hearing, the match (which was taped yesterday) is very good…albeit very short.

Ariel (Shelly Martinez) Comments Further on Her WWE/ECW Release

Shelly Martinez aka ArielShelly Martinez (formerly WWE/ECW’s Ariel) has posted a message on her official website, DesireLive.com, regarding her recent departure from the fed. Martinez wrote:

I just am the type to stand up for what I believe in, lets just end it at that. Now I will have more time to dedicate to the site and start the growth of what my fans want to see. Sweet pictures, info on my events and signings all that good stuff. I will always finally update my photo galleries and photos that you can purchase. Again, please don’t feel bad or sorry for me. I am not. Bloody kisses….xo Shelly.
